A rebellion is brewing in the world of the Lake of Sins while Hugh Truent sits in prison days away from his execution.

After taking his findings about the genetic similarities between the classes to the Supreme Almighty and the Council, Hugh had been arrested for treason and all his evidence had vanished as if made from smoke.

To protect his family, he cut off all contact with the outside world while he sat in prison for over four years waiting for his execution. He has no idea that some of his reports were leaked to the other classes and that civil war looms on the horizon.

Trinity and her friends have no hope of winning the war unless they can unite the classes. In order to do that, they need someone everyone will follow. They need the one person all the classes trust and believe in. They need Hugh.

That means they have to break him out of a maximum security prison and convince him to lead their army, but that won’t be easy because Hugh wants revenge and he’s not going to let anything get in his way especially mouthy, attractive, know-it-all Trinity.

Interview with the Author

Q. – So, why should someone read the Lake of Sins series?

Well, because it’s great (smiles) and you can get the first two books free. So, why not give it a try? However, if you’re looking for your typical dystopian, post-apocalyptic, survival thriller then you should look somewhere else. This story has been described as a one of a kind world created in a unique dystopian society.

The characters in the series are human-animal hybrids—genetic mutations or evil experiments, is yet to be revealed. It’s an entire new species of characters who don’t fit in the typical genre categories of vampire, werewolf, witch, fairies or even angels and demons.

The world of the Lake of Sins is segregated by class with the humans ruling supreme. In book one, Escape, Trinity, a sixteen year old Producer (the lowest of the classes), unwittingly sets off a collision between the classes when she flees into the forest to discover the fate of the teenagers who are removed from camp every year after harvest. Some say they are taken to another camp to keep bloodlines strong. Others say they are tortured. No one knows and Trinity is determined to find out, but what she doesn’t expect is to be hunted by mutant horror creatures and predator long thought to be extinct.

The books are fast paced with adventure and mutated creatures around every corner. There are legends that are truth and societal truths that are well guarded lies.

All-in-all, it’s a unique and exciting read and you should give it a try. I think you’ll love it.

The Conguise Chronicles series also takes place in the world of the Lake of Sins. These stories are prequels, explaining how some of the characters, who you meet in the Lake of Sins series, became monsters.

Q. – Who should read the Lake of Sins series?

Although there’s a strong, female lead in Lake of Sins, the audience for both series is broad. I have fans (male and female) aged ten through eighty. Anyone who likes gory thrillers that are dark, a little disturbing and packed with action will enjoy these books. If you like Hunger Games, Lord of the Rings and The Island of Dr. Moreau, then you’ll enjoy these tales.

However, a word of caution is in order. These books are not for the squeamish. Some scenes are bloody and violent almost falling into the gory horror genre, but the interactions between the characters are funny, poignant and loving (and a love triangle develops as the stories progress). Still, I wouldn’t recommend these books to anyone under thirteen without the parents reading the books first.

The Lake of Sins Series should be read in order. The Conguise Chronicles series can be read in any order.

The first two books in this series were gritty, dark, and hard to put down. If I hadn't started the side game of watching what percentage of the book the characters spent bickering and trying to convince our main character of the last two books that she needed a man between her legs to settle her down, and that she was immature and incapable of rational thought, I wouldn't have been able to finish this one.

Four years have passed since the last book. Not much has changed, as true change can only be brought with a human (male) leader. No one else is mentally capable of making it happen (no, I'm not kidding). Trinity is now in her early twenties, though according to everyone else, she has returned to the age of twelve. She rescues her uncle, who spends the next ten percent of the book arguing with her about how he didn't like the way the rescue was pulled off an calling her bratty, immature, etc. Soon after, he realizes she is attractive and the fact that she gets male attention is added to the list of complaints. Despite the fact that she is written as an important contact and person to others, any request she makes is argued with, any decision she makes is overridden, and she is told constantly that she can't be on her own, handle herself, or make her own decisions. If she does make a decision it is overridden to put her in a worse situation, that wouldn't have happen if she had just stayed at home, of course.

If you cut out the parts of this book where others complained about Trinity being an immature brat that could magically be fixed if she got laid, cut out the parts where others argued with her about her actions, and cut out the parts where it was stated she needed to stay at home because she was helpless (though it was also stated she was the best at survival and a killer), you would have a few chapters of a start for decent book in the series. As it is, this book fell in to the trap of many other young adult romances where in order to make the man look strong, they had to make the woman weak. As Trinity has never been weak, this author had to try for stupid, but since stupid enough to make THIS work wasn't an option, the only possibility left was to make any character progression go so far backwards as to write her as a twelve year old in a woman's body. Of course, she is the only twenty something year old on the planet that hasn't been informed about how sex works and doesn't understand flirting, so that she can be both a bratty child and a sexual object at the same time!

If you like romances that go nowhere where manly men complain about bratty women, and other important stuff happens in the background, but only when the main characters aren't anywhere near each other as that results in nothing but bickering, this is your perfect book. Other stuff happened and heavy handed morality was demonstrated, but the real lesson of this story is that if you undermine, complain at, and tell a woman she is a child and needs a man to take care of her, and that if she doesn't start having children she will be all alone in the world for the majority of a book, by the end of it you can make her agree with you.

Of course, all of these people encouraging her to breed seem to be forgetting that they are all living on borrowed time, and this whole series started out because Trinity's people a bred, killed, cooked, and eaten by everyone else. Even their allies... who are usually kind enough to hide to roast if Trinity pops over. Apparently is poor manners to offer someone a bite of their sibling when you are trying to convince them to settle down and have kids (for you to eat).

Lake Of Sins Hangman Army eBook L S O'Dea Reviews

Great reading from start to end. Loved all the characters. Can't wait for book four BETRAYED to be released this summer.
I'm looking forward to the next book! This story has developed characters and takes you away to another world. I stayed up way too late reading it and still I want more!
This author continues to pull you into the story with characters with believable personalities and just enough conflict to make it spicy. I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. I couldn't help falling in love with the lead character, Trinity, as she struggles to do the right thing, all while knowing others don't like her because she's different. A great read!
I read the first book and liked it. The second book was even better. Hangman's Army is even better. I can't wait to start Betrayed. L. S. O'Dea knows how to keep your attention and write a story that doesn't have parts that lag.
What irks me a bit is Jackson and Kim’s relationship, wish Jackson would stop fighting it as in everyone else is taking risks. Really hoping Hugh and trinity become mates.
I've really enjoyed the lake of sins series so far. I was thrown off a bit when this book started and was four years after where we left off in book two. I guess it keeps the story moving and allows the characters to age and mature. This book maintained the violent/horror images of the predecessors. One thing that makes sense but I wasn't a fan of was the increase in sexual content. There wasn't anything graphic but there were several discussions of mating habits, prostitution, and sex with minors that made the reading slightly uncomfortable. It makes sense to add another horror to the series. I guess I was just not a fan of Hugh's little indiscretion. I suppose it makes the characters more realistic, but I align with Trinity's belief that you should find someone to bond with and stay with them. Here's hoping she finds someone worthy of her before the end.
Third book of the series, but still as addicting as the first. It's such an interesting yet familiar world Ms. O'Dea has built. If you love action and intrigue, you'll love this book and it's predecessors. If you're a romance (or, in this case, paranormal romance) fan, you'll love this book. If you love dark, it's that as well. The author kept me hungry throughout, eager to see what happens next. As impatient as I am, I have greedily purchased the last two books in this series!
